Financial and Family Well-Being

Free to Save - Asset Savings and Purchase

Community Action's Free to Save - Asset Savings and Purchase program offers individuals with low-to-moderate income the opportunity to save, build habits, and transform economic goals into reality.

The Asset Savings and Purchase service provides participants with a 4:1 savings match. Individuals will need to successfully complete the Financial Coaching Service prior to or during their participation in the Asset Savings and Purchase portion of the program. They will also complete asset-specific education while building good financial habits and saving over time towards the purchase of an asset.

Free to Save participants will save up to $2,000, matched with up to $8,000, for a total savings of up to $10,000 towards the purchase of one of the following assets:

  • Home
  • Vehicle
  • Post-secondary education
  • Small business start-up or expansion

There is a waiting list for this service, which is not intended to address immediate needs. To be eligible for this program, you must be a resident of Lancaster or Saunders County, Nebraska. Individuals with annual income at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines (currently individual = $30,120; family of four = $62,400) and a net worth of less than $10,000 may be eligible.
